Day 1: Ljubljana and its Dragons
On the day of your arrival, we’ll pick you up at the Ljubljana Airport and take you to your hotel. In the evening, we’ll dine downtown in fine Ljubljana style. Dragons are a famous symbol in Ljubljana: Legend goes that one was killed by the mythological Greek heroes Jason and the Argonauts (founders of Ljubljana). Today, dragons are portrayed in statues, in the city coat of arms, and on the mysterious Dragon Bridge! Let’s see how many we can spot during this tour of the Slovenian capital. After the tour takes us through Ljubljana’s Old Town, including Ljubljana Castle, we'll dine at an authentic downtown restaurant.
Day 2: Hiking to Big Pasteur Plateau and Ljubljana
In the morning, a guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you on a leisurely hike to Velika Planina (Big Pasteur Plateau), one of Slovenia’s most recognizable and picturesque destinations. We’ll ride the lift chair up the gorgeous shepherd mountain. Humans have inhabited this mountain since prehistoric times, and the area is now home to over one hundred distinctive Alpine pasture huts. In the afternoon, a guide will take us on a short walking tour of some of the historic sights of Slovenia’s capital city.
Day 3: Škocjan Caves and Piran
Next up: Škocjan Caves, a UNESCO natural and cultural world heritage site. This cave is one of the largest known underground canyons in the world, due to a specialized ecosystem and microclimatic conditions. After a special fish lunch, we’ll visit Piran, a fascinating Mediterranean harbor, formerly part of the Republic of Venice. Nestled in the narrow, ancient streets are churches, galleries, and such cultural landmarks as the birthplace of Baroque composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini.
Day 4: Logar Valley
The Logar Valley is one of the most beautiful Alpine Glacial valleys in Europe. As part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, tradition and nature have found harmony here, offering a good example of sustainable development. Our visit includes a guided tour around the Logar Valley: we’ll have an opportunity to relax in the peaceful ambience of the landscape park, as well as hike or enjoy a visit to Rinka Waterfall.
Day 5: Ljubljana: explore on your own
Today, take some time to explore on your own--or just rest up before race day!
Day 6: 10K at Night around Lake Bled
Lake Bled is one of the most recognizable tourist destinations in Slovenia; we’ll walk along its shores and marvel. There’s time to explore on your own, take a trip by boat to visit the iconic island and ring the wish bell, or simply enjoy some quiet. That afternoon, we’ll join the festivities in anticipation of the race, which kicks off at 10 p.m.
Day 7: Soca River Valley
On our last day we’ll go to the Soca River Valley. Our first stop will be curve nine over the Vrsic pass, where we’ll see a small chapel, commemorating thousands of Russian prisoners from WW1. At the top of the pass, we’ll take a short stretch break and enjoy the stunning views. On the other side of the pass, the Soca River is waiting for us. One of the most beautiful rivers in Europe will fill us with peace. This emerald river is a hidden gem, surrounded by pristine woods, jagged mountains in Triglav National park, and WW1 history. On our way back we’ll stop for our farewell dinner.
Day 8: Moving on
This trip has come to an end, but we’re happy to help coordinate your next step. If you plan to vacation in Europe, Ljubljana Brnik, Zagreb, and Venice Marco Polo are the most convenient airports to fly out of. However, if you want to extend your stay in Slovenia, we’re happy to connect you with your next adventure!
