Day 1: Arrival
On the day of your arrival, we'll pick you up at the Ljubljana Airport and take you to your hotel. In the evening, we'll have dinner in downtown Ljubljana with authentic local cuisine.
Day 2: Ljubljana and its Dragons
A tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in the morning of your second day and take you on a short walking tour to visit some of the historic sights of Slovenia’s capital city. Dragons are a famous symbol in Ljubljana: Legend goes that one was killed by the mythological Greek heroes Jason and the Argonauts (founders of Ljubljana). Today, dragons are portrayed in statues, in the city coat of arms, and on the mysterious Dragon Bridge! Let’s see how many we can spot during this tour of the Slovenian capital. After the tour takes us through Ljubljana’s Old Town, including Ljubljana Castle, you'll have time to explore on your own.
Day 3: Soča River
On the third day, we'll hop onto our bikes and visit the Soča Valley. This course is short and relatively flat; today, we'll focus on natural wonders. We'll visit one of the tallest European waterfalls, 144 m high and 18 m wide. Then, we'll visit a second waterfall, less tall, but very popular among photographers due to its shimmering emerald hues.
Length of the course: 18 km
Elevation: 270 meters
Difficulty: Easy
Day 4: Cycling along the Soča River
In the morning, we'll drive to Tolmin and visit the Church of the Holy Spirit in Javorca. This memorial from WWI celebrates the fallen defenders of the Isonzo Front and bears the critically-acclaimed European Heritage label. From there, we'll follow the Soča (Isonzo) River and cycle to Kobarid. After lunch, we'll visit the Kobarid Museum, which exhibits events that occurred during WWI. We'll also visit Napoleon’s Bridge, the Kozjak Waterfall, and the Great Soča Gorge. In the evening, we'll return to Bovec by bicycle or by car.
Length of the course: 17 km to Kobarid, 16 km to Bovec
Elevation: 175 m to Kobarid, 218 m to Bovec
Difficulty: Easy
Day 5: Options: Rest or Hike
In the morning we'll organize an optional trip to Kanin in Triglav National Park and be amazed by the Julian Alps. If the weather's favorable, we'll see all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. In the afternoon, we'll drive to the Island of Krk.
Day 6: Old Oak on Island of Krk
The oldest inhabitant of Krk Island is a 400-year-old oak tree growing in a forest near Malinska village. The tree has become a selfie hotspot; there used to be many more such oaks, but they were cut down in the previous centuries and used for construction. Some were even used as piling in Venice. From the city of Krk, we'll ride north, through olive groves and stone walls. The route is moderate, and there are easy portions with downhill roads. From there, the village of Malinska, located at the mid-point of our tour, is close. After resting in Malinska, we'll continue on a paved road and then enjoy one of the nicest stretches of downhill road after Kras village. We return to Krk through the famous Olive Oil Route.
Length of the course: 55 km
Elevation: 1000 m
Difficulty: Moderate
Day 7: To the Moon and Back
One does not need to visit the Moon to find a moon-like landscape! Rather, cycle uphill from the Baška village to the church of St. John (Sv. Ivan) and turn on the winding road that gradually climbs through the pine forest. After climbing 400 m, step through one of the holes in the stone wall and see what the Moon might look like: a vast rocky landscape! Here, the rocks are inhabited by sheep grazing on patchy tufts of grass. The path leading through this unique landscape spans about 12 km. A short road crosses the stream, then we'll follow it to return to Baška. The view from Baška Bay is one of the most beautiful panoramas on Krk. Across the sea, you can see the boulders on Prvič island; it feels as though the world might end just past them!
Length of the course: 35 km
Elevation: 750 mm
Difficulty: Moderate
Day 8: A Day on Your Own
Today, stroll around Krk and enjoy the views. Later, we'll drive to nearby Rab island, where you can tour the enchanting town or visit local heritage sites.
Day 9: Move on
This trip has come to an end, but we’re happy to help coordinate your next step. If you plan to vacation in Europe, Ljubljana Brnik and Venice Marco Polo are the most convenient airports to fly out of. However, if you want to extend your stay in Slovenia, we’re happy to connect you with your next adventure!
