Four Bridges Run and Live Like a King and Queen in Medieval Slovenia
Day 1: Welcome to one of the greenest countries in the world!
On the day of your arrival, we’ll pick you up at the Ljubljana Airport and take you to your hotel. In the evening, we’ll dine at Ljubljana castle in authentic Slovenian style.
Day 2: Ljubljana and its Dragons
A tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in the morning of your second day and take you on a short walking tour to visit some of the historic sights of Slovenia’s capital city. Dragons are a famous symbol in Ljubljana: Legend goes that one was killed by the mythological Greek heroes Jason and the Argonauts (founders of Ljubljana). Today, dragons are portrayed in statues, in the city coat of arms, and on the mysterious Dragon Bridge! Let’s see how many we can spot during this tour of the Slovenian capital. After the tour takes us through Ljubljana’s Old Town, including Ljubljana Castle, you can explore on your own. Then before dinner, we’ll join a local running group for a jog.
Day 3: Lake Bled
Lake Bled is one of the most recognizable tourist destinations in Slovenia; we’ll walk along its shores and marvel. There’s time to explore on your own, take a trip by boat to visit the iconic island and ring the wish bell, or simply enjoy some quiet.
Day 4: Predjama Castle and Piran
We’re off to the Slovenian coast to see Predjama castle! After visiting the “Castle In a Cave,” we’ll have a lunch. Then we’ll visit Piran, a fascinating Mediterranean harbor, formerly part of the Republic of Venice. Nestled in the narrow, ancient streets are churches, galleries, and such cultural landmarks as the birthplace of Baroque composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini. After special fish dinner, we'll go back to lodge in Ljubljana.
Day 5: Sneznik Castle and Krizna Cave
In the morning, we’ll visit Krizna Cave, an 8,273-meter-long cave system. It is one of the few caves in Slovenia which contains natural pathways and muted lighting. Krizna Cave is considered one of the oldest and most beautiful and best preserved caves in the world. In the afternoon we’ll visit Sneznik Castle, one of the few castles in Slovenia that still uses original furnishings. Managed by the National Museum of Slovenia, Sneznik Castle depicts 19th century Slovenian culture.
Day 6: 10K Long Party in Škofja Loka
In the morning we’ll visit Škofja Loka (Bishop's Meadow), one of the oldest settlements in Slovenia. Our tour includes the old city center, the castle (built by bishops in the 11th and 12th century), the Capuchin Library, and coffee break in the castle jailer’s former dwellings. We’ll have lunch at the Kašča restaurant, a cultural heritage site where the people of Škofja Loka stored grain. After lunch, we’ll join the festivities for the Four Bridges Run.
Day 7: Ptuj, the oldest Slovenian town
Today we’ll travel through Ptuj, Slovenia’s oldest city. Settled in the Stone Age, Ptuj has a rich and varied history, including jurisdiction by the Roman Empire, the Frankish Empire, and German occupancy during World War II. Our tour takes us from the old city center to Ptuj Castle (12th century).
Day 8: Move on
Our trip has come to an end but we are happy to help coordinate the next step of your trip. If you plan on wrapping up your vacation in Europe, Ljubljana Brnik, Zagreb, and Venice Marco Polo are the most convenient airports to fly out of. However, if you can extend your stay in Slovenia or elsewhere in Europe, we are happy to help you reach your next destination!
