A trail running adventure in the Julian Alps is an amazing experience for any mountain lover. With stunning alpine rivers and mountains, the Alps reach to almost 3000 meters above sea level. You’ll experience all that and more in 7 days.

The Julian Alps Trail Run Adventure is a connective tour, during which you’ll discover a new place every day and circle around the whole Julian Alps, meeting Triglav National Park, Bled, Soča Valley, Bohinj Lake, and Kranjska Gora.

We’ve prepared a fantastic experience after your third stage – you’ll be sleeping in a mountain cabin at Krn Lakes, right in the heart of the Julian Alps. We haven’t forgotten about Slovenia’s highest mountain Triglav (2864 m) either – you’ll be able to admire it up close during stage four.

You’ll experience a lot during your 7-day run – unforgettable views, alpine single trails, a true trail running heaven, and brilliant lakes. To make your experience as memorable as possible, we advise you to complete this tour sometime between the beginning of May and the end of September, because this is when the Julian Alps is at its best.

Kranjska Gora, where you’ll start your adventure, is very accessible, due to the road which leads almost straight to this beautiful alpine resort. It’s about an hour from Ljubljana airport and 2 hours from the Venice airport (Marco Polo).

Internationally, it’s known as host to both the Alpine Ski World Cup and Ski-flying Planica. It’s also the perfect place to start exploring the Julian Alps. We simply can’t overlook its beautiful surroundings either, such as the picturesque Lake Jasna and the nature preserve Zelenci – also the source of Sava Dolinka river.

To make everything a bit more interesting, there will be numerous suspension bridges to cross. We advise you to relax your pace and take some time to check out The Great and The Small Soča Gorge. We’ll finish in Bovec, a true outdoor center in the Soča Valley. If time permits, you can enjoy rafting or kayaking on the Soča River.

We’ll begin our third stage in Bovec. Make sure you’re well equipped since undoubtedly you’ll be drawn to the markets and outdoor shops in Bovec. It’s vital you take care of everything before you start this stage, because you’ll spend your next night in the mountains – in a cabin at Krn Lake. Not only that, but this is also a difficult stage, as you’ll climb above 2000 meters for the first time. It’s a scenic route that takes extra time, so we’ll leave Bovec early in the morning. The route takes us along The Walk of Peace from WWI, which is also a part of UNESCO heritage sites. The best part of this stage comes towards the end, when you catch a glimpse of the brilliant Krn Lake, with the majestic Mt. Krn in the background. The mountain cabin you’ll be staying in offers food and drinks, so there’s no need to worry about enjoying a nice dinner and a cold pint of beer in the evening.
