Three hearts marathon and Slovenian wines

$3250 per person

Organized in Radenci in 1981, the Three Hearts Marathon (also half marathon, 10 K (6.2 miles), and 5 K (3.1 miles)) attracts several thousand people each year. Since 1436, Radenci (formerly Radein) has been known as the spa for curing heart disease. Its legendary mineral water heals the body and the mind. It’s so clean you can drink it straight from the spring, or fill a bathtub to luxuriate in its bubbles. Top quality health and Radenci’s 250 days of sunshine make this a race of place. Choose from the marathon, half-marathon (21K), 10K, or 5K junior & teenage divisions!

Day 1: Welcome to one of the greenest countries in the world!
On the day of your arrival, we’ll pick you up at the Ljubljana Airport and take you to your hotel. In the evening, we’ll dine downtown with the finest of flavors.
Day 2: Ljubljana and its Dragons
In the morning, a guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you on a short walking tour to visit some of the historic sights of Slovenia’s capital city. Dragons are a famous symbol in Ljubljana: Legend goes that one was killed by the mythological Greek heroes Jason and the Argonauts (founders of Ljubljana). Today, dragons are portrayed in statues, in the city coat of arms, and on the mysterious Dragon Bridge! Let’s see how many we can spot during this tour of the Slovenian capital. After the tour takes us through Ljubljana’s Old Town, including Ljubljana Castle, you’ll have time to explore on your own in the afternoon. We’ll have a typical Slovenian dinner, made in a modern style downtown Ljubljana.
Day 3: Lake Bled
Lake Bled is one of the most recognizable tourist destinations in Slovenia; we’ll meander along its shores on the third day of our stay. There will be time to explore on your own or take a trip by boat (fee not included) to visit the iconic island and ring the wish bell. In the afternoon, we’ll dine at a typical local restaurant and then head back to Ljubljana and  we’ll dine at a cozy local restaurant on our way home.
Day 4: Štanjel and Piran
In the morning we’ll head towards the Slovenian coast to see a small old village of Stanjel. After visiting this old gem with a gorgeous view, we’ll have a special prosciutto lunch, paired with traditional local wine. In the afternoon we’ll visit Piran, a fascinating Mediterranean harbor, formerly part of the Republic of Venice. Nestled in the narrow, ancient streets are churches, galleries, and such cultural landmarks as the birthplace of Baroque composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini. After a unique fish dinner paired with another type of wine, we’ll head back to lodge in Ljubljana.
Day 5: Radenci
In the morning we’ll pack up and head to Radenci, where we can experience the healing mineral waters first-hand. We will make a stop in Maribor to see the oldest grapevine in the world! We’ll have a late lunch/early dinner at a traditional ham making shop to fuel our bodies for the run.
Day 6: Run
Race day! We‘ll lodge in a hotel close to the Three Hearts Marathon Start and the volunteer work station. That evening, we’ll dine in at a favorite local restaurant.
Day 7: Wine tasting in Radgonske gorice
On the last day of our trip we’ll share lunch in a local restaurant. Then we’ll bid farewell in Gornja Radgona, famous for its wineries, complete with sparkling wine tastings.
Day 8: Move on
This trip has come to an end, but we’re happy to help coordinate your next step. If you plan to vacation in Europe, Ljubljana Brnik, Zagreb and Venice Marco Polo are the most convenient airports to fly out of. However, if you want to extend your stay in Slovenia, we’re happy to connect you with your next adventure!
